“Luck… or Something” by Hilary Duff ends a ten-year drought. Stream it now.
There are breaks between projects. And Hilary Duff’s next record has been on hold for more than ten years. Luck… or Something, which came out at midnight, ends all of it.
Luck… or Something is Duff’s sixth studio album. It’s the first one after Breathe In. Almost 11 years ago, in June 2015, Breathe Out was out.
The new album, her first with Atlantic Records, has 11 tracks, including “Mature” and “Roommates,” which were already out. It is claimed to be informed by “the chaos and clarity of motherhood, marriage, and finding herself in her 30s.”
Duff says, “This is the question of whether women can have it all, and I learned through this process that I had to give up some things to put the record first.” It may be challenging, but I still think it’s acceptable to put yourself first and do things that worry you. She says, “Taking the time to make an album after all these years was very powerful for me, and now I can’t wait to share it with the world.”
The singer and actress, who has won many platinum records, co-wrote the song. Her husband Matthew Koma (Britney Spears, P!nk) and Brian Phillips (Alec Benjamin, blink-182) produced it. The song is a reference to her lengthy, twisting road.
In a statement on the new LP, she says, “People always ask me how I keep my head on straight after growing up in this business.” “The title of the album is my answer to that question. It felt right for a record that talks about where I’ve been and all the things I’ve been through along the way.”
Duff will promote the album with her first full-scale worldwide headlining tour in nearly twenty years. The tour will include stops in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Right now, Duff has been in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 list five times in a row, with two number ones: “Metamorphosis” in 2003 (one week) and “Most Wanted” in 2005 (two weeks). She has had seven songs reach the Billboard Hot 100 throughout her career.
